Nusantara is a new administrative capital project developed to replace Jakarta as Indonesia’s current capital city. The city is being built in the Kalimantan region of Borneo Island and is planned as an alternative to Jakarta, which faces severe overpopulation and environmental risks.
The project aims to promote more balanced regional development, relocate government functions to a more sustainable center, and establish a modern smart-city infrastructure. Nusantara is designed as a low-carbon, environmentally friendly smart city powered by green energy and supported by digital infrastructure.
Urban planning prioritizes the preservation of forest ecosystems, eco-friendly architecture, and sustainable transportation systems. The relocation of government institutions is being carried out in phases, with major development stages expected to progress toward 2030.
Nusantara is regarded as one of Indonesia’s most significant strategic transformation projects for the future.
