Rönesans Energy, operating as a joint venture between Rönesans Holding and TotalEnergies and continuing its investments with the goal of becoming one of Türkiye’s top three green energy companies, is implementing its first investment in the energy storage sector. Within the scope of its collaboration with Alarko Gotion Green Energy, Rönesans Energy has signed an agreement for the procurement of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the Sibel Wind Power Plant (WPP).
By diversifying and strengthening its renewable energy investments, Rönesans Energy aims to make its production processes more flexible, efficient, and predictable through this step. The battery system to be installed at the 88 MWm installed capacity Sibel WPP in İzmir, which is part of Rönesans Energy’s portfolio, is expected to reduce imbalance costs arising from production fluctuations inherent to wind energy. This investment will enable the production profile to become more flexible and controllable, allowing Rönesans Energy’s aggregation portfolio to be managed more effectively, predictably, and in an optimized manner.
With the commissioning of the energy storage system, the company aims to optimize revenues by benefiting from market price fluctuations, reduce production losses caused by curtailment and imbalance costs, and improve overall portfolio profitability and operational efficiency. This step represents an important example of a next-generation energy management approach that contributes to making renewable energy production more adaptable and manageable under market conditions.
Share of Storage Investments in the Portfolio Will Increase
Emre Hatem, Head of Energy Group at Rönesans Holding, stated that energy storage investments will occupy a larger share of the portfolio in the coming period: “In the next five years, our priority will be energy storage investments. Capacity expansion is critically important for us. In this context, we will continue our clean and renewable energy investments. In addition, we will maintain our turbine repowering investments. Our focus areas include storage-integrated wind and solar projects. We will also continue investments in hybrid power plants. During this process, we are focusing on digitalization and AI-supported maintenance and operational solutions. Our goal is to generate more, more efficient, and more flexible output from the same infrastructure. As of today, our installed capacity stands at 577 MW. We have increased our installed capacity 3.5 times in two years. Our project portfolio has reached 1,400 MW. We aim to increase our installed capacity to 1,000 MW in 2027 and 2,000 MW in 2028. Over the next two years, our investments will mainly focus on wind, solar, storage, and flexible generation projects. We aim to deliver integrated energy production by combining reliable energy with flexible generation solutions.”
This investment stands out as a significant step in Rönesans Energy’s strategy to transform its energy production structure into a more integrated and flexible system supported by advanced technologies.
